TEDx Mission Viejo
Host and Speaker Consultant
Steve Mazan is a stand-up comedian and speaker who has toured the world sharing his laughs and stories. He himself has delivered two well-received TED talks: one on chasing your dreams and the other on the power of laughter. Steve’s friendly demeanor and lighthearted delivery allow him to entertain audiences while at the same time delivering a motivational message.
Steve grew up in the suburbs of Chicago as the youngest member of a typically dysfunctional, but very funny family. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard a submarine during the Gulf War. This combination of a crazy family and years of living underwater prepared Steve for one thing: A life as a stand-up comedian.
After attending college back in Illinois, Steve started comedy in the famous San Francisco comedy scene that produced such legends as Robin Williams and Dana Carvey. Within a couple years he was doing comedy full-time. In his early 30’s Steve was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and given a worst case scenario of five years to live. Never a “worst-case scenario” guy, Steve dedicated himself to using whatever time he had left to reaching his dream of performing on the Late Show with David Letterman. Two filmmakers made an award-winning documentary about Steve’s journey entitled Dying to Do Letterman that played across the country and is available on iTunes and Amazon.
Healthy and happy a decade later, Steve lives in Los Angeles but continues to tour the world, sharing jokes and inspiration.
